October 4
Tuesday
1) Complete Cells Pre Assessment Remember you are to do this individually, closed book.  Don’t stress if you can only remember a few. It is just a starting place for us.  This is formative (not for marks).
a.   Please hand in to the sub when you are finished.
b.    Time: approx. 15 minutes (complete and head to the sr. comp lab)
c.   Remember:  We talked about this being a time of overlap between the two units.

2.       Next you may head to the Sr. Computer Lab to work on the following things:
 A) Wonder Why Assignment – Please sign up on the paper that the sub has.  Remember my in class example of Why do onions make you cry.  We will book time for you to present when I am back.  (Email or wiki mail me if you have questions.
Time: This assignment should take 30-45 minutes.
Due:  On the date that you present to the class (but essentially you should have it done this week)
Remember:  You may use this item to start class with.  Have you signed up for that yet?

B)  Cell Conference - Cell Parts – Research and create a hand out for your assigned part of the cell. (We will sign up for this on Monday.)  -  Remember that your information needs to be available in some form as a handout.  You will hand in a print copy to me and I will make a booklet for the class.  You will also upload your document to the wiki and create a link or you can create a new page on the wiki and link to the Cell Parts – Cell Conference page.  Your choice.
Time:  This assignment should take you 40 – 60 minutes or less.
Due: Friday will be your chance to clarify any questions about this assignment and it will be due on Tuesday.  (So I can photocopy the booklet for class.)
Remember:  We don’t have access to a computer lab to coincide with the start of this unit so we need to do this in advance.

C) RNA Transcription & Protein Synthesis Assignment: (your major assignment for unit 1).  Please spend at least one day (1 hour) getting your rough version worked out.
Time: 1 workday this week – more day(s) to be added depending on how you use your time.
Remember:  This is where you are demonstrating your detailed understanding of this topic.  Our unit 1 exam will focus on fewer details and more on the big picture.

D)  Evolution Questions:
Depending on how you have used your time above you could have 15-30 minutes or more of time to work on this.  If you choose to work more thoroughly on your unit 1 assignment that is fine.
Due:  We should be well in Chapter 21 and will chat about what will be due next week.
1) Completed Pre-Assessment
2) Worked on or finished up Wonder Why?  - ***If you took the entire class to select a question, then you need to finish that up on your own and move on to Cell Parts.
